Montreal Festival turns 'cold' into 'Cool'
2nd Annual Cool Fest uses music to transform cold weather
Montreal, Quebec, CANADA (November 15, 2008) Tapping into some of North America's coolest and most far-out music, Cool Fest 8 is a three-day music festival that will include eminent acts from New York City, Baltimore, Chicago, Toronto and Orlando such as the legendary Metalux as part 35 groups uniting to anticipate Winter Solstice, celebrating the darkest days of the year with creativity in music and fun.
"Cool just moved into the modern age, man" explains Blake Hargreaves, festival founder and all-around coolness impresario. "This town has a lot of music festivals, but none promise to be as laid-back, friendly, affordable, and generally chill as Cool Fest."
This year's festival follows the success of 2007's Cool Fest 7, when 25+ Montreal acts performed over two days for a pay-what-you-can crowd; Hargreaves is building on that success and branching out, big time. "We're spreading the Cool word across the land, by bringing some prime representatives of Cool from miles around to Montreal, be fertilized by the coolness, and go forth and spread the word. Cold can be cool."
Joining the best in Montreal's Cool music scene this year are the aforementioned 5RC recording artists Metalux, Wolf Eyes founder Nate Young in his synth-video group Demons, Ecstatic Peace!/Important Records free-jazz masters Mouthus, with their Brooklyn compatriots Marcia Basset, Mattin, and Axolotl, and a host of other talents from afar including perennial favourite Disguises from Toronto.
The festival promises to be one of the most diverse out there, with speaker-tweaking noise hellions performing alongside folk singer-songwriters and world music drum circle purveyors.
"If it's cool, it's in the fest" says Blake, who clearly revels at dragging Americans to Montreal in December. "We're just gonna sweat out the cold with this Cool Fest."
Cool Fest is Dec 12-13-14 at La Brique, 6545 Durocher #402. Tickets are $10 per night, and $15 weekend passes are available for advance purchase, at local record stores and online through paypal at www.fluorescentfriends.org.
La Brique is an all-ages, non-smoking family-compatible environment; they will be offering delicious vegetarian dishes and non-alcoholic beverages at affordable prices. Doors open at 5 PM each night. BYOB.
